RISING motocross star Emilee Lewis is ready to return from injury as she competes in the 2016 Shipwreck Coast 2-Day Open next weekend, January 23-24.
The 17-year-old from Frankston South is coming back from a collar bone injury and will be easing back into competition at next weekend’s season opener in Warrnambool.
“I’ll be taking it slowly. I want to feel comfortable on the bike again and I want to be able to stay on the bike,” Emilee, who only started competing in motocross three years ago, said.
She competed in the 2015 Shell Advance Gippsland Motocross Championships where she impressively finished first overall in the Junior Girls Combined class.
“It was a lot of fun last year. There were a lot of new girls trying out the sport too so that was great to see,” Emilee, who notably won four rounds last year, added.
She’ll use the 2-Day Open as a good practice run before she launches an assault on the Victorian Motocross Championships and the Gippys.
Emilee was also part of a group of 12 girls who took part in a Girls Combined class, one of the biggest in the sport’s history, at last year’s Victorian Junior Motocross Championships at the Korumburra Motorcycle Club at Outtrim in March.
She finished fourth overall at that round, an impressive result, considering it was her first time that she’d ever competed at a state-level event. Emilee is very pleased that motocross is welcoming more women and girls.
“It’s great that it’s becoming a multi-sex sport and girls can now go out there and just have fun,” Emilee said.
Emilee would like to thank Cann Doo Safety, Girl Rider, Clikr MX, Somerville Motorcycles, and Willmax Graphics for all their support. You can follow Emilee’s progress throughout the year via her official Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/Emilee-Lewis-MX-805520286240925/?fref=ts.
The 2016 Shipwreck Coast 2 Day Open takes place on Buckley’s Road, Lake Gillear in Allansford from Saturday, January 23. Racing starts at 9am.
