HAMILTON motocross brothers Lachlan Davis and Nicholas Davis are revved-up to take on the state’s best motocross riders in Victoria as the opening round of the 2017 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships kicks into high gear at Warrnambool this weekend, April 8-9.
Victorian motocross champion Lachlan Davis, who won the A-Lites and Under 19s titles in 2015, is keen to get back to the top after a disappointing season last year.
“I’m hoping to ride the best I can on the day. I really like competing in the Victorian Senior Motocross Championships. Warrnambool is pretty close,” the 20-year-old said.
“I don’t live near much but I’m really looking forward to it. I only did one round last year. I was competing in both the MX Nationals and the state titles.
“In Round 2 of the MX Nationals I dislocated my elbow, which put me out for of both competitions for a fair bit, and I also hurt my ankle earlier in the year so it didn’t work out too well for me last year, unfortunately,” Lachie said.
Lachie competed in the MX1 450 Pro class in the opening round of the 2017 Motul MX Nationals at Wonthaggi last Sunday, April 2 where he featured strongly in the top 20 in both races.
Lachie is hoping to replicate some of the form that brought him two state titles in 2015. “I’m hoping to have a pretty consistent season,” Lachie, who will be competing in the MX1 Pro Open 450cc class, added.
Lachlan’s younger brother Nick Davis is also looking forward to the opening round of the VSMXC. Nick has been getting used to his new bike – a KTM 17 450. “I love the new bike. I’ve been riding heaps,” he said.
“I’ve done the first two rounds of the 2017 Western Region MX Series where I won one race and game second in the last two races at Warrnambool, which I won the overall.
“At Ararat, I won the first two races, and was winning the last one but crashed on the last lap and finished in around sixth so I’m feeling pretty good,” the 18-year-old said.
“I know Warrnambool pretty well. It’s a good track. At the state titles, I would like to ride well and hopefully finish in the top five or ten and I hope to win the B Grade championship in the Western Region MX Series,” Nick, who’ll be competing in the MX1 B Grade Open class on the weekend, added.
“I would love to ride against my brother in A Grade. I competed against him at a Hamilton MC Club Day recently and I’m still a far way off his pace but it’ll be fun,” Nick said.

Lachie would also like to compete one day against his brother: “Nick is getting quicker every time he races,” Lachie added.
Lachie would like to thank Mototech KTM in Geelong for sorting out his bike, and Gas Imports for sorting him out with some gear. “I couldn’t do it without their support,” he said. Nick would like to thank MNA Moto Supplies and Barry Francis Motorcycles for their support.
The opening round of the AMX Presents M2R 2017 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships takes place at the Shipwreck Coast Motorcycle Club at Lake Gillear on Saturday, April 8 from 9am.
