Speedway GP stars to converge on Mildura

POLISH speedway stars Bartoz Zmarslik and Piotr Pawlicki will visit Mildura for the U21 World Championship.

The FIM Team Speedway Under 21 World Championship Final to be held at Mildura’s Olympic Park Speedway on Saturday, October 31 will feature two of the newly graduated stars of the upcoming 2016 Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) season.

Patrons at Mildura will be delighted to get a preview of the newest members of SGP when Bartoz Zmarslik and Piotr Pawlicki join their Polish team mates for the Team Under 21 Championship meeting at the Mildura venue, just one week after the historic running of the final SGP of the year at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne on Saturday, October 24.

Team Poland will contest the 2015 Team Speedway Under 21 World Championship against teams from Denmark, Germany and host nation, Australia. Four riders will make up each team for the Championship, with each rider scheduled to take five rides in the meeting.

Zmarslik and Pawlicki finished in first and second place respectively in last week’s Grand Prix Challenge meeting held at Rybnik, Poland. The only other qualifier to the 2016 SGP series was veteran British rider, Chris Harris.

Zmarslik has been the “Wild Card” entry for the Polish SGP for the last two year’s meetings at Gorzow and last year took the SGP win and just four weeks ago, again took a podium position in his home Grand Prix.

The young Zmarslik and Piotr Pawlicki will hope that their good form comes with them to Australia, as the Polish team will be keen to defend their Under 21 World Team Championship at the technical Mildura track. Team Poland has an excellent record in the Under 21 Teams events, but their trip to Mildura, Australia may be their most daunting.

The Teams Under 21 format will see one member from each team ride in each heat of the twenty heat program The format allows for a tactical substitution may be made, and also a “Joker” may be played, when a team is more than a certain number of points behind the leaders. The “Joker” scores double points, which can keep the meeting very interesting.

Piotr Pawlicki is the current Individual World Under 21 Champion as well as being a member of the team defending Team Speedway Under 21 World Championship.
