MILDURA speedway star Justin Sedgmen sealed third-place overall in the national speedway titles.
The thrilling last round of the 2015 Matt Jones Motorcycles’ Australian Speedway Solo Championships in Kurri Kurri, just outside of Newcastle, New South Wales, on Saturday night, January 10.
“The last two rounds weren’t my best rounds, but I still did pretty well,” Justin said. “It was a difficult track at Undera (Round 3) and the whole night was a bit of a disaster but to come away with nine points was good,” Justin added.
Justin believed it was always going to be hard to beat eventual champion Jason Doyle and runner-up Sam Masters on their home track in New South Wales in the ultimate round.
“Obviously, it’s no secret that I don’t like slick tracks, and the track got pretty slick towards the end, and I struggled a bit. Other than that, I felt like I rode really well for the whole series and it’s definitely something to build on,” Justin added.
“I had a good night. I got 11 points,” Justin continued. “To finish third in the championship behind Jason and Sam is a good thing, and it’s really nice to have those two guys in front of me because they’ve helped me in my career and I’ve helped them.
“It was a nice feeling,” Justin added. Fellow Victorian Max Fricke finished fourth overall, after suffering mechanical problems with his bike all night.
Justin picked the opening round at Gillman, South Australia, as his best round of the series where he finished second overall.
“I led the final for a little bit at Gillman, which was good. I actually beat Jason and Chris (Holder) during the heats in Mildura, but they beat me in the final,” Justin continued.
Sedgmen will head back to England in February to defend his Premier League title with Edinburgh Monarchs
“Obviously we’re champions from last year, so we’ll try and do that again, and hopefully I can turn a few heads doing it,” Justin said.
Justin added: “I’d really like to congratulate Jason on his win.
“He’s someone that I look up to and for all the hard work that he does behind the scenes he really does deserve this victory.”
