MX Nationals Under 19s leader Jack Simpson aims to take the lead in the Under 19s class at the VSMXC this weekend.
NATIONAL rising motocross star Jack Simpson will be out to gain some valuable points on his own home track when the second round of Victoria’s premier motocross competition – the 2014 Victorian Motocross Championships – ignites at the Rosebud Motorcycle Club on the Mornington Peninsula this weekend, May 10-11.
The Rosebud Motorcycle Club member is currently leading the Under 19s class at the 2014 Monster Energy MX Nationals by 3 points over fellow Victorian Jed Beaton.
“The year has started well in the MX Nationals. At Round 1 at Broadford, I just wanted to get through the first round unscathed and start the season off well,” the 18-year-old said.
“I also had really good vibes at Appin, because I’ve won there before, and that all turned out well. Wonthaggi was pretty much the same as last year too. I won there last year too and all I wanted to do was replicate that again this year and that’s what I did,” Jack added.
Jack currently sits in second-place in the Under 19s class at the Victorian Senior Motocross Championships, 19 points behind Beaton.
“Rosebud’s my home track and I always like to go down there and be a solid force – there’s no reason why I can’t do something pretty cool down there this weekend,” Jack, who’s been a member of the Rosebud Motorcycle Club for nine years, added.
“It’s the first track that I ever raced on. I started my racing career there and I know how to get myself going around the track,” Jack continued.
In his last year in the state’s junior competition in 2011, Jack won all three of his races by a fair winning margin: “I think I won each race by about 30 seconds so it was a pretty solid day’s racing,” Jack added.
Asked if he liked racing in both the MX Nationals and Victoria’s premier motocross racing competition, Jack replied: “It’s good to have the Victorian Senior Motocross Championships. It really keeps you on your toes and you still have some of the top national riders compete at the highest state-level,” Jack, who also competes in the Pro Lites class, added.
Jack would like to thank his sponsors Bolton Motorcycles, KTM Australia, Fox, Oakley, DonJoy, Mad, Tune Tech Suspension, Adsim Excavations, and Mark Sladek Industries, Pirelli Tyres, Motorex Oil, Top One Seat Covers, Ethika Underwear, Shane Reed, Joe Stephens from MotoX Athlete Development, the Collective Family for all their amazing support.
“I’m definitely going for the overall win this weekend,” Jack added.
The 2014 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships takes place at the Rosebud Motorcycle Club on Long Point Road, Cape Shanck. Racing starts at 9am on both days. Entry is free.
