Levels of Officials

There are four different levels of Officials accreditation that you may achieve. Details on each level is listed below.

Level 1 (Club Level)

The process of gaining a Level 1 Officials Licence is as follows:

You will need to have a current Manual of Motorcycle Sport at hand, as the Level 1 assessment is open book, with answers found within the Manual. If you do not have a copy, it can be found online here, or contact the MV Office to have a hard copy sent to you.

You will need to be at least 16 years old to gain an operational officials licence, and at least 18 years old to gain a key officials licence.

Particularly as this is a new assessment, if you have any queries please contact MV on info@motorcyclingvic.com.au or 03 9673 0600 for further instructions.

Level 1 Officials Assessment:

To become a Level 1 Accredited Official, you will need to complete the Officials Licence Application Form, and the Level 1 Officials Assessement found below. Once both are completed, please forward to the MV Office by either email, fax or post.

Level 2 (Interclub)

To attain this level officials are required to attend an Officials Course and successfully complete the assessment requirements.

A Level 2 Officials Licence is required to be an official at any club or interclub level meeting. Level 2 is also the lowest level of accreditation for a Steward.

Level 3 (State level)

To attain this level officials are required to attend an Officials Course and successfully complete the assessment requirements at a Level 3 standard.

To become a Level 3 Official you must first become a Level 2 Official and gain enough experience to have your licence upgraded. This generally requires you to officiate at several level 3 events as an assistant in the role/s you wish to be upgraded in, and have this information logged in your Participation Journal as per GCR 9.3.3.

Once you have completed this, return an Officials Licence Application Form and a copy of your Participation Journal to MV for approval.

Level 4 (National level)

To attain Level 4 accreditation as a Steward, Clerk of Course and/or Referee applicants must attend a Key Officials Seminar (conducted by MA) every four (4) years and successfully complete the assessment requirements.

Level 4 accreditation for all positions other than those listed above is awarded by the National Officials Commission.

All Level 4 licenses are issued by Motorcycling Australia.

International (FIM) Accreditation

To be accredited at the International level, an applicant must hold Level 4 accreditation and have successfully completed an FIM Seminar. FIM Seminars are conducted in Australia as required to provide officials for World Championship events (WSBK, MotoGP).
