Reece Bancell Scholarship

A joint venture between Motorcycling Australia, the Bancell Family and various Motorcycle Accessory Suppliers / Manufacturers, the Reece Bancell Scholarship was established to honour Reece Bancell and to assist and develop young riders with product and financial aid to compete in the Australian Road Race Championships.

The Reece Bancell Scholarhip was also established in conjunction with the Reece Bancell Memorial Association, a registered Charity and Fundraising organisation which will endeavour to assist riders and their families in the event of serious or fatal accidents and to assist in rider training and safety.

About the Reece Bancell Scholarship:

The Reece Bancell Scholarship was awarded annually to a rider competing in the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) to assist them in contesting in the following year’s ASBK Championship.

The Reece Bancell Scholarship was made available to riders from any class, with the recipient selected based on the rider’s professionalism and performance, as well as on the following criteria and guidelines:

  • Professional attitude - behaviour and approach to racing and outside activities not necessarily associated with motorcycle sport.
  • Ability - not necessarily based solely on results, but potentual ability and future.
  • Presentation – able to ensure continued professionalism and be well-groomed at all times, both on and off the track.
  • Dedication and Commitment – ability to achieve their goals.
  • Under 25 years of age – at time of application.
  • Attitude and sociability – on and off the track.
  • Non factory-contracted – or non factory-backed satellite rider at time of application.

The assessment panel consisted of representatives from the Bancell Family, MA as well as the motorcycling industry and selected motorcycling media.
