The family of the late Kirk McCarthy, in conjunction with Motorcycling Australia and a number of industry partners, has established an award program to assist young riders in contesting the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK).
The program is named in honour of Kirk McCarthy, who passed away in 2004 following a distinguished national and international racing career which included stints in both the 500cc GP and Superbike World Championships, as well as being crowned Australian Superbike Champion in 1995.
Each year, one rider will be selected to receive the Kirk McCarthy Memorial Award, which will be in the form of financial and product support to contest the following year’s ASBK.
The award is open to riders in all Australian Superbike Championship classes. A perpetual trophy will be awarded to the recipient, who will also receive a replica of the trophy at the annual ASBK presentation dinner.
