Kristy Gillespie maintained her Number One plate at the final round of the 2012 VSMXC at Horsham on June 23-24.

Kristy Gillespie won her seventh Victorian title in a row on June 24-25 at Horsham, keeping her Number One plate.

THE FINAL round of the 2012 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships on  June 24-25 at Horsham not only presented difficult track conditions and illness, but in a courageous effort also marked Kristy Gillespie’s seventh consecutive Women’s title.

Gillespie claimed three round wins on her way to claiming yet another title, but at the series finale illness struck and upon claiming the Championship with one race remaining, Gillespie sat out the final race. Gillespie claimed fifth overall for the final round at Horsham.

“This is going to be a memorable win," Gillespie said.

"It’s not how I had planned to wrap up the Championship, my aim was to claim the round win at Horsham so I was a bit disappointed I couldn’t race hard to the end, but I was really unwell this weekend."

"I managed to wrap up the title with a race to go and I was just so sick I had to sit out the final race," Gillespie added

"I can’t thank my family and supporters enough, I couldn’t do it without them,” the Victorian concluded.

Team Manager Glenn Macdonald was extremely proud of her efforts.

“Kristy certainly showed grit and determination this weekend, dragging herself out of the back of her car, her sick bed for the weekend, struggling to get to the start line. Kristy did what she felt she needed to do to seal another title," Macdonald said.

"Everyone at GMR Motorex KTM, and our associated sponsors, are very proud of her efforts and her seventh consecutive state Women’s title is going to be a very hard record to break in the future,” he concluded.
