2012 Australian Speedway World Cup Team
Jason Crump (Captain) | QLD |
Chris Holder | NSW |
Darcy Ward | QLD |
David Watt | QLD |
Team Manager Mark Lemon is confident the Australian team is in with a strong chance to take out the 2012 Championship.
“I’m heading into my first World Cup as a Manager and I couldn’t be in a better position. All four riders are currently on good form, deserving of their place and want to ride for their country,” Lemon said.
“Captain Jason Crump, three times World Champion, and Chris Holder are jointly at number two in the World Championship standings at the halfway stage of the Speedway Grand Prix series.
“David Watt is maturing as a quality world class rider and his league form around Europe has caught everyone’s attention this season, and Darcy Ward is regarded as the hottest prospect in the world of Speedway and also tops the Riders League averages in the United Kingdom,” Lemon said.
“We have a great blend of riders to call upon and see no reason why we shouldn’t lift the Ove Fundin Trophy in Mallila, Sweden.”
The four-man team, selected from the ten-strong Australian squad, will go up against rivals Britain, Germany and the Czech Republic in Event 2.
Reigning World Champion Poland will meet Russia, Denmark and the United States of America in Event 1 on home soil in Bydgoszcz, Poland on July 7.
The second and third placed teams from each Event will progress to a Race-Off in Malilla, Sweden on July 12. The winner of the Race-Off will join the winners of Event 1 and 2, and host team Sweden, in the tournament Final at Malilla on July 14.
Every fan will be able to watch every moment of the 2012 FIM Speedway World Cup as it happens, with SPEED TV broadcasting every round LIVE.
