Poland: a night to forget for Crump
June 25, 2012

Round 6 of the 2012 FIM Speedway GP was a night to forget for Crump, who missed out on the semi-final.

With a win in Copenhagen two weeks ago, Aussie Speedway star Jason Crump was on a mission to achieve a similar result at round six of the 2012 FIM Speedway Grand Prix in in Gorzow, Poland on Saturday – but it was a night to forget for the triple World Champion.

Crump looked set to produce another bagful of points after taking a strong and gutsy win from his first ride, but was brought to a shattering halt when his front wheel was taken out by Sweden’s Antonio Lindback. The Aussie was controversially excluded for being the cause of the stoppage, as deemed by the referee.

After taking just two more points from his next three rides, Crump missed out on a place in the semi-finals, but the 36-year old Australian was optimistic and professional in his assessment of the night.

“My first heat was probably the hardest with Hancock, Sayfutdinov and Holder and I won that from gate four,” Crump said.

“And the incident with Lindback in heat eight was just one of those racing accidents that could have gone either way and this time it went against me.  But that’s all part of racing; you win some, you lose some. This time I lost.

“It was not my night tonight, but I am still in the hunt and not out of contention. I will go home and watch a replay of the meeting to assess my performance, but it’s not the end of the world. I will just put it behind me and look forward to the next event.

“I’ve got the World Cup next with Team Australia and we just missed out on winning last year so hopefully we go one better this year and bring home the trophy.”
