Maxwell third row for Moto2
October 16, 2010

Wayne Maxwell will start from 11th position.

Aussie injury replacement Wayne Maxwell produced the ride of his life to qualify 11th for tomorrow’s Australian Moto2 Grand Prix.

In a terrific ride from the Victorian-based ASBK star, a brilliant last lap of 1.36.146 was enough to earn a starting spot on the third row of the grid.

Struggling with mechanical and communication issues during the two free practice sessions, Maxwell was cut a frustrated figure in the lead up to qualifying.

However a strong performance when it mattered most has Maxwell sitting along world Moto2 championship Toni Elias for the start of Sunday’s race.

It was a less successful session for Anthony West, who couldn’t match the speed of his morning practice session, forced to settle for 23rd position on the grid.

West won’t be too disheartened by the grid position though, with less than 0.6 of a second separating him from Maxwell.

Wildcard Alex Cudlin makes up the trio of Aussies through to Sunday’s race, with the endure specialist qualifying in 33rd position.

Finding his feet on the Moto2 bike, Cudlin appears set for a strong assault on the field when the Moto2 Grand Prix gets under way.
