Hook and Taylor in Moto125 GP
October 16, 2010

Josh Hook will be racing on Sunday.

Australian wildcards Josh Hook and Joel Taylor have qualified for Sunday's Australian Moto125 Grand Prix at Phillip Island.

Hook came up big when it mattered most, qualifying in 22nd position for Sunday’s Moto125 main race, after the 17-year-old produced a brilliant final 10 minutes of the afternoon’s qualifying session.

Coming off his bike in the morning’s free practice, the determined Taree native found the speed he needed, recording a fastest lap more than a second below the 107 per cent qualifying time.

Unhappy with the steering in the early part of the session, Hook managed to overcome the difficulties to record six consecutive laps under the 1.45 mark, including a fastest lap of 1.43.808 in the closing stages of the session.

For Taylor the spot on the final grid was confirmed thanks to his sensational performance in the wet on Friday, where a 19th place finish was enough for him to earn a spot on the seventh line of the grid.

After a crash late in teh moring session, Taylor’s crew worked tirelessly to get his bike up for the qualifying session and after a 12-minute delay managed to get the 16-year-old on track.

Throwing everything into his last lap, Taylor came within a whisker of making the final cut in the required time, but was will still take to the grid in 25th position.

Elsewhere it was a forgettable qualifying session for the Aussie wildcard hopefuls, with Levi Day unable to match the pace of the front runners and finished 27th in the session, missing out on qualification by a little over one second.

For Jordan Zamora and Nicky Diles qualification proved just out of reach, with clutch issues hampering Zamora’s chances.

After a heavy crash in the morning session, Diles could not recapture his earlier speed as the factory-backed international riders began flex their muscle on a dry Phillip Island circuit.
