MOTORCYCLING VICTORIA IS MOVING INTO THE 21ST CENTURY

Motorcycling Victoria is introducing electronic timing for Motocross and Enduro events in 2008.

This timing system (AMBmx) will revolutionise lap scoring and for motocross will enable grid positions to be determined from qualifying or practice times. Results will be able to be posted to allow riders to check their results immediately after each race and complete event results will be posted on www.mylaps.com. This will enable riders to compare their times from meeting to meeting and therefore be able to work more effectively on bike set up from meeting to meeting.

The system will also be of great benefit to commentators who will have the luxury of a monitor which will help them identify riders and their positions on the track.

For Enduro events the system will make the job of scoring much less complicated and will allow organisers to have final results completed far more quickly than is currently the case.

Riders will be required to purchase a transponder that will be attached to the front forks behind their number plate.  Motorcycling Victoria realises that there will be parents who have more than one rider in the family, so for these families an option  will be available that will allow parents to hire transponders for a set number of events and then purchase those transponders.

The AMB system is currently in use in NSW and WA. Motorcycling Victoria decided to adopt the AMB system so that riders wishing to compete at interstate meetings would be able to use their own transponder and not have the added expense of hiring a transponder for these events. Hopefully other states will see the benefits of using this system and follow the same path as Victoria.

We envisage that the first event to use this new system will be the Boltons Motorcycles Castlemaine 2 Day Open to be held on the weekend of 22-23 March.

To give competitors plenty of time to be ready for the introduction of the AMB timing system transponders will be available for purchase from the 10th March 2008. Order forms may be downloaded from www.motorcyclingvic.com.au (click on Transponder Sales). Order forms may now be posted to:
